Nationwide Virgin Media Issues

January 17th, 2012

Update: 12:01 18/01/2012

We have further updates from the Virgin Network Team and according to them all the connectivity issues are now resolved.

We will be routing traffic back to the Virgin links later on as soon as we have an official confirmation the links are 100% active and stable.

Update: 09:13 18/01/2012
There is still some conflicting information out there with regards to this issue, please see https://national.virginmedia.com/service-announcements/status & https://national.virginmedia.com/service-announcements/serviceInfo?serviceId=3&type=F

We have taken the step of routing traffic to virgin media over a separate peering link which seems to have resolved packet loss issues for people accessing our network via virgin media if their connection is fixed.

We are yet to receive any official update but are actively chasing our account managers and the support team.

Update: 17:43
We have since seen various leased lines going up and down and are updating virgin with any information we get, it is however taking a long time to get through to them due to the amount of calls they are receiving. We are told that the problem is related to the core infrastructure of the network which is why it is having such a drastic effect.

Dear Customers

We have seen some odd behaviour on circuits with virgin media, including a huge traffic drop off to their network through our peering links, starting at around 15:00 today. We are subsequently still seeing packet loss issues to this network.

Customers who have virgin media leased lines or home/business internet connections in their premises will probably be seeing issues at this time. We have raised a fault with Virgin and await their response, however they have confirmed there does appear to be an issue.
